🌿 Hawi the Hippie – Ethiopia Filter Coffee Ireland

Take a sip and let things slow down for a moment.
Hawi the Hippie is a lush Ethiopian filter coffee that drifts somewhere between bright berry sweetness and deep wine-like richness. Smooth, juicy, and just a little bit dreamy — this is the kind of coffee made for slow mornings, open windows, and letting the brew do its thing.

Grown high in the hills of Murago in Sidamo, this naturally processed lot delivers vibrant layers of blackberry and blueberry, followed by a rich red wine character and a soft, caramel-like sweetness reminiscent of demerara sugar. As it cools, the cup becomes deeper and more syrupy, revealing new layers with every sip.

Naturally processed Ethiopian coffees often bring a little wildness to the cup — expressive, fruit-forward, and full of movement — and Hawi captures that spirit perfectly.

Roasted in Ireland specifically for filter brewing, it shines in V60, Kalita, Chemex, Aeropress, or batch brew.

🌄 The Story Behind the Coffee

This coffee comes from Bekele Kachara, a producer in the Sidamo region who inherited his first farm in the village of Hache before expanding production to a second farm in Murago.

Here, Bekele cultivates traditional Ethiopian varietals 74158 and 74110 beneath the shade of intercropped fruit trees, creating a diverse farm ecosystem that helps the cherries develop slowly and evenly.

At his Hache farm, Bekele focuses on natural processing, where ripe coffee cherries are carefully handpicked and then dried on raised beds for around 16 days, allowing the fruit sugars to fully develop in the beans.

The result is a coffee that feels rich, expressive, and slightly wild — packed with berry sweetness, winey depth, and a smooth sugary finish.

Just the way Hawi likes it.
