Rwamatamu

Rwamatamu is a family-owned coffee producer founded in 2015 by husband-and-wife team Rutaganda Gaston and Mukantwaza Laetitia.

What started as a way to create better opportunities in their local community has grown into a quality-focused coffee operation working with smallholder farmers and cooperatives across Rwanda.

Their newer washing station in Mbare has become a serious part of that story.

Coffee hasn't traditionally been the main crop around Mbare, so Rwamatamu has been working directly with local farmers to improve quality and make coffee a more valuable crop for the community. They also run a Youth Association in the area, providing young farmers with land, seedlings, equipment and training.

And the coffee coming out of Mbare is getting noticed — Rwamatamu's washed Mbare coffee has placed right at the sharp end of Rwanda's national coffee competitions in recent years.

Turns out Molly has expensive taste.

Washed & Raised-Bed Dried

After picking, the cherries are carefully sorted before the fruit is removed.

The coffee is then fermented, washed clean and spread across raised drying beds, where it is regularly turned and hand-sorted as it slowly dries.

That careful processing helps give this coffee the clarity and sweetness we're looking for in the cup.
