The Silly Simon Origin Story

Silly Simon comes from Alto del Obispo — a misty mountain district near the historic town of San Agustín in Colombia’s legendary Huila region. Volcanic soils, cool nights, steady sunshine, and slow cherry ripening combine to create dense, flavour-packed beans that shine in espresso.

Here, most farms are tiny family plots. Around 80% of producers cultivate less than three hectares, tending their trees by hand and obsessing over quality from harvest to drying beds. Cherries are delivered to communal washing stations, where careful fermentation and clean processing lock in sweetness and clarity.

For more than three decades, exporter Cóndor has worked directly with farmers in the area — helping Alto del Obispo earn a reputation as a global benchmark for Colombian specialty coffee and giving rise to the famous San Agustín name recognised around the world.

Locals say the mountain air around Alto del Obispo sharpens the senses — where flavours glow, colours hum, and mornings feel like they’ve wandered into a better timeline.

Coffee here is about more than flavour. In 2005, the community partnered with Cóndor and Colombia’s Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar to build the Centro Comunitario Alto del Obispo, a childcare centre supporting farming families with early-years care and nutrition programmes — especially vital during harvest season. These projects continue today through long-term relationships with growers and roasters who keep coming back year after year.

The washed process lets Simon show off his sweetest side — thick chocolate, sticky nougat, and flashes of nectarine through the finish — earning this lot a very respectable 85-point score.
